Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory: Music From The Original Soundtrack Of The Paramount Picture
Anthony Newley; Leslie Bricusse; | Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban
John Williams; John Williams; Dufay Collective; |
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory: Music From The Original Soundtrack Of The Paramount PictureOriginally released in 1971, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory was an imaginative film that drew as much inspiration from the leftover vibes (and drugs) of the psychedelic '60s as it did from Roald Dahl's fanciful children's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. If you doubt it, check out this special 25th anniversary edition of the original soundtrack album, which features lyrics and music by Anthony Newley, who was a major influence on David Bowie and whose work on this film has clearly inspired '90s rockers from Veruca Salt (who took their name from the spoiled rich girl) to the Butthole Surfers (who could easily cover the sinister, trippy "Wondrous Boat Ride". C'mon, everybody, let's sing: "Oompa loompa/Doomp-ity-do/I've got another lesson for you...." --Jim Derogatis

Customer Review:Oompa-loompa, doopity doo, i've got another puzzle for youThe musical score from Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory is as catchy and memorable as the movie. Oompa-loompa, doopity doo, i've got another puzzle for you, I mean, is this the best soundtrack in the world or what? Every hummable tune (Especially Gene Wilder's little 'Pure Imagination' song) just makes me want to sing along with the music, it's so fundiddlyscrumptious that I can't stop listening to this all day. Like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins, these are soundtracks that I shouldn't like, but I do and then some! 'The Candyman Can' is another inspired tune. Buy it now and have a musical adventure. And if you already have it, you're humming it right now aren't you? Like Willy Wonka says: 'A little nonsens now and then is relished by the wisest of men. Cherish this fantastic soundtrack forever. All together now: 'Oompa-loompa, doopity doo, i've got another puzzle for you...' This is the Citizen Kane of movie music. Good!Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory is a wonderful movie and it has some cute songs so I really like this soundtrack though I do have to agree with the reviewers who said it would have been even better if the sound effects from the movie had seperate tracks instead of being blended into the songs. All of the tracks on this CD are good but my personal favorites are Candy Man, Pure Imagination, I've Got a Golden Ticket and the main title instrumental track. I highly recommend this soundtrack to anyone who likes the movie! Pure GeniousThis cd is absolutley AWESOME!!!!!!!! i love the movie, i love the book and the music defintly plays a big part of how the movie is. I can listen to this over and over and over again. Seriosuly, you should get this cd. it is abosutley amazing. i was so excited when i bought this because i could listen to the songs as many times as i wanted. Harry Potter & the Prisoner of AzkabanIf the commercial constraints of genre and chronic Hollywood sequelitis threaten to musically straitjacket even a legend like John Williams, the veteran playfully rebuffs such cynicism in his rich, mirthful score for this third chapter of the Harry Potter cycle. Whether inspired by a willful desire not to repeat himself, the continued reinvention of his jazz roots that brightened his scores for Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal, or the story's requirement for a handful of fresh themes, Williams informs his work here with an often dizzying range. The warm mysticism of "Hedwig's Theme" and classical farrago of "Aunt Marge's Waltz" can scarcely prepare one for the swinging, off-kilter "Knight Bus," a romp that suggests a head-on collision between the big-band bombast of 1941 and the loopy, Cantina Band kitsch of Star Wars. From there Williams skips back a half-millennium or so for inspiration, conjuring the ancient children's chorus "Double Trouble" (its text adapted from no less than MacBeth), a medieval theme that becomes one of the score's inspirational foundations. Those with a taste for the composer's patent orchestral thunder won't be disappointed either, as the Herrmann-influenced percussion/brass bombast of "Buckbeat's Flight" and "The Whomping Willow.." attest with rousing zeal. It's arguably Williams' best Potter score to date, a soundtrack whose inspirations sprawl across six centuries -- and as many disparate musical styles. Enhanced CD features include a photo gallery and exclusive computer wallpaper and screensaver files. -- Jerry McCulley

Customer Review:Casting A Spell I really enjoy this sound track. I would like to have all three of them one day but right now I just have the third one. However, I can't really complain. I personally think that it suits the book very well and of course the movie. HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban movie soundtrack review I really loved this soundtrack. It made me think of parts of the movie, and it all sounded so magical, the way Harry Potter should be! My personal favorites were; A Window to the Past, The Knight Bus, and Buckbeaks Flight.BUY THIS SOUNDTRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dark, Relaxing, and Exciting-all in one! This CD is awesome to anyone, not just to HP fans like me. "The Sorceror's Stone Soundtrack" is nothing compared to this. "A Window to the Past" and "Lumos!" is relaxing. "Buckbeak's Flight" and many others are Exciting, and they're all dark and deep. I love this Soundtrack, 5 stars, definetly! Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits
John Mellencamp; | Wicked (2003 Original Broadway Cast)
Stephen Schwartz; Kristin Chenoweth; Idina Menzel; |
Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest HitsCompare this to John Mellencamp's previous hits set, The Best That I Could Do 1978-1988, and it quickly becomes apparent how much the artist formerly known as John Cougar has grown in the second phase of his career. Following a 1994 heart attack, the songwriter transformed from cocky jukebox hero to compassionate everyman, trading in big pop riffs for sublime, politically charged songs that echo the outspoken work of Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. Spanning 25 years, this 35-track set incorporates most of the last collection along with more recent hits over two discs in nonchronological order. --Aidin Vaziri

Customer Review:Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest HitsThis is the best greatest hits CD ever. If you like John Mellencamp at all you will love this CD. Fantastic CDs, DVD a wasteGreat songs! But who came up with this clunky tri-fold cardboard case on the US edition?? Maybe they wanted a way to tuck the "bonus" DVD inside, but that I could have done without as it contained mostly the MTV videos, not concert footage. Worse, the booklet contained everything you could want to know about each song, EXCEPT the lyrics. THE John Mellencamp Collection to own! For the discerning record collector, deciding which albums of their favorite artists to own is usually a tough choice. For John Mellencamp fans, however, "Words and Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits", makes that choice quite simple. This is the Mellencamp collection to buy.
For a career that has spanned over twenty-five years, John Mellencamp, like most accomplished artists who can last that long, has had an onslaught of hit songs. To make matters better, they're all here - almost like hearing your own private Mellencamp concert in your living room : "Pink Houses", "Rain on the Scarecrow", "Paper in Fire", "Human Wheels", "Authority Song", "Small Town", "R.O.C.K. in the USA", "What If I Came Knocking", "Cherry Bomb", "I Need a Lover", "Hurts So Good", "Jack and Diane", "Peaceful World... every piece of classic heartland rock he ever wrote, all in one place.
Go ahead and do your research. No other Mellencamp collection offers as many strong songs in one place. For all the hits in one place (and for a reasonable price), Words and Music is the one to buy. Note: Also contains bonus DVD with video footage of "Check it Out", "Rain on the Scarecrow", and "R.O.C.K. in the USA". Wicked (2003 Original Broadway Cast)One of the most common complaints about musicals is that the books are flimsy pretexts from which to hang numbers. Wicked runs into the opposite problem: it has a great plot, but too often the songs just get in the way. Based on Gregory Maguire's novel of the same name, Wicked tells us what happened between Glinda the Good and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, before Dorothy showed up in Oz. And the show is lucky to boast a pair of ace leading women in the main roles. As Glinda, Kristin Chenoweth delivers a sensational star turn, displaying a crystal-pure voice and sharp comic timing; Idina Menzel lends her powerful pipes to the tricky role of Elphaba. Unfortunately, you wish they had better material to work with. Stephen Schwartz's pop score is often dragged down by overly synthetic orchestrations and sentimental lyrics (think Chicken Soup for the Witch). Still, at its best Wicked is a seductive slice of popular entertainment that could well give a younger audience a lasting taste for musical theater. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Customer Review:FANTASTIC!!I love this show, and its music. The singers are phenominal!! Especially the evil witch. You just get taken away in her high belt! What a singer. Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!!!If you have no other Broadway Show cd's than make this your first. Words can not describe the wonderful lyrics and melodies contained in this recording. Now, proceed to checkout!!! Great ShowThough the musical can not even begin to have the sophistication of the SUPERB book by Gregory McGuire, it is great fun. Though the original cast is good, the current broadway cast (Shoshana Bean as Elphaba, Megan Hilty as Glinda, Ben Vereen as The Wizard...) is a cast I wish I could have a recording of. Shoshana Bean blows Idina Menzel out of the water...her voice is more stable in all registers and her acting is far superior. I'm okay with spending $15 on the CD with Idina but I'd never have paid $200 for a ticket for her...Shoshana I plan to see at least 2 more times in NYC.
